Writing
My words have appeared in a number of outlets, from The Baltimore Sun and the Center for Responsive Politics to lengthy features in City Pages, the alt-weekly in Minneapolis. Here are a few samples:
CITY PAGES
In 2014, I worked as a Voice Media Group Fellow with City Pages, the alt-weekly in Minneapolis. A few of my stories:
A profile of arguably the most controversial bear researcher in the world.
An investigation into why venture capitalists were buying up hundreds of Minneapolis homes -- and how their out-of-state practices were hurting tenants across the Twin Cities.
A look at a potentially transformative mining project that could potentially save Northern Minnesota's jobs, or damage Minnesota's boundary waters.
CENTER FOR RESPONSIVE POLITICS
In my time researching dark money at the Center for Responsive Politics, I produced articles looking at the money influencing elections, major Senate races and issues ranging from agriculture to the minimum wage, to the revolving door between Comcast and the FCC. My stories were featured on Gizmodo, VICE, and the LA Times.
THE HECHINGER REPORT
In 2017, I produced stories as a "Future of Learning" fellow with the nonprofit education news outlet The Hechinger Report. From Maine, I reported on national trends in education. I looked at the push towards "proficiency-based education" in Maine. I looked at how one rural Maine university was trying to use the new form of education to all but eliminate F's -- and help get more students through college. And I also explored a program where teachers taught students inside their homes as a way to reach at-risk kids, particularly those with severe anxiety.
